Detroit Tigers Send Down Rick Porcello

The Detroit Tigers sent down Rick Porcello to Triple-A on Sunday and are hoping to get the same results from this move that they got from sending down Max Scherzer earlier in the year.

Earlier this year, the Tigers sent down Scherzer and his 7.29 ERA and 5.6 K’s/9 to Triple-A. Since Scherzer has returned, the 25-year-old righty has a 3.48 ERA and has struck out 11.9 batters per nine IP. That is impressive.

Those are the results the Tigers are hoping to get from Porcello.

Catcher Jason Castro Called Up By Houston Astros

While we might be calling 2010 “The Year of the Pitcher,” I think we should really start calling 2010 “The Year of the Rookie.”

So far in 2010, we have seen some great performances from rookies such as Jason Heyward, Ike Davis, Austin Jackson, Gaby Sanchez, Justin Smoak, Carlos Santana, Mike Leake, Jaime Garcia, and of course, Stephen Strasburg.

The Houston Astros called up catcher Jason Castro in hopes he can be added to the list of rookies who have made an impact this season.

Monday Morning Manager: My Weekly Take on the Detroit Tigers

Last Week:  6-1

This Week:  at NYM (6/22-24); at Atl (6/25-27)

So What Happened?

The National League came to town and all was good again.

The Tigers should pull a Milwaukee Brewers and lobby for a move to the NL. The American League can have the Brewers back, as a matter of fact.

Fantasy Baseball Monday Lineup Decisions: Sunday Transaction Recap

Yesterday turned out to be a heavy day for transactions that may have an impact on fantasy lineups for the coming week. Let’s take a look.

Rick Porcello Was Demoted to Triple-A

Part of me wants to say that it’s about time.

He has been awful this season, with a bloated ERA (6.14) and a complete lack of strikeouts.

Yes, some of his struggles have been due to poor luck (.350 BABIP, 61.7 percent strand rate), but when you are posting a 4.2 K/9, it really doesn’t matter.

Lady Gaga: Strangest Fan of MLB's New York Yankees, New York Mets

Who else would be allowed into Yankee Stadium or Citi Field in that outfit?

That's a rhetorical question, so no need to answer it.

Who else could manage to sneak past security and talk to players inside the clubhouse after a loss?

Maybe only a handful of celebrities come to mind.

Who else could make New Yorkers suddenly consider the middle finger to be an obscene gesture after years of it?

Only a pop singer that talks about monsters.

MLB: Minaya, Mets Righting the Ship

The open of the 2010 season had many fans of the New York Metropolitans up in arms.

Instant Replay in Major League Baseball: An Umpire's Perspective

Earlier this month, the man to the right became the poster-boy, if you will, for an MLB Instant Replay system.

My name is James Yaeger. I am 16 years old. I shoot video for my local cable access station. I'm a junior in high school and I occasionally write some articles here for Bleacher Report. In addition, I have been an ASA Certified Umpire for three years.

Braves Re-Routing Road To National League Pennant

As Major League Baseball steams toward the All-Star break, the Atlanta Braves find themselves in first place in the NL East, and holding the best record in the National League.

That's no misprint. For a group that was picked to finish fourth in their division, the resurgent Braves have found success from some unlikely sources, and a familiar process.

First, the unlikely.

Colby Lewis and Week 12's Fantasy Baseball Two-Start Pitchers

Fantasy Baseball’s Pitching Line of the Week:

Colby Lewis (SP-TEX) 9 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 9 K, W

Lewis pitched his first career complete game on June 19 against the Houston Astros. He picked up his third consecutive win while allowing only one earned run on two hits, striking out nine, and walking none.
