In my last article , I discussed the fact that the Arizona Diamondbacks will be sellers at the trade deadline. I named Kelly Johnson as a potential player for the Mets to go after. The Diamondbacks also have another player that the Mets and many other teams will be interested in: Dan Haren.

For the third time this season, Johan Santana served up a home run with the bases full, as C.C. Sabathia and the Yankees took the rubber game of a three-game set in the Bronx.

Santana had only surrendered two grand slams in his career entering the 2010 campaign, but Mark Teixeira did what Josh Willingham and Shane Victorino did earlier this year in helping the Yankees to a 4-0 victory.

In my last article , I discussed the likelihood that the Arizona Diamondbacks will be sellers at the trade deadline, including how Kelly Johnson is a possible target for the Mets.

Later this week we will hopefully see the return of Aramis Ramirez . It's been a rough year for fantasy owners, having to either drop the All-Star third baseman or painfully hold on and possibly waste a DL spot. Somehow I've ended up with Aramis two years in a row and I literally punch a wall overtime I see an article about how his poor thumb hurts him.

THE GOOD

In a night filled with stories, the Pirates finally ended one—their horrendous twelve-game losing streak.

The Pirates did so in a 6-4 victory over the Cleveland Indians in game two of the series. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1960 Pirates' World Series victory, Pittsburgh fans were out in full force at PNC Park for the third sellout of the season. A contributing factor, one might say, to the elevated play from the struggling ball club. 

As you all know by now, Troy Tulowitzki has a broken bone in his hand and was put on the disabled list on Friday, and could be out for about six weeks.  The good news is there was no ligament damage, which would have made his time away much longer.

People have been bemoaning the Yankees offense for the past couple of days and even weeks. It’s true that their offense has been inconsistent of late, but with two of their biggest pieces Jorge Posada and Alex Rodriguez missing time, this his to be expected. Overall though, their numbers look pretty good.

Split personality disorder.

It's the only explanation for the Detroit Tigers in the Jim Leyland era. 

Each year it's the same story. First half of the season, Detroit is a consistent and winning ball club. The second half, a below .500 team struggling to hang on to what they built up to the All Star break.

If it happens one year, maybe unbalanced scheduling can be used as an excuse. If it happens another year, maybe injuries can be used. But for four straight years, not much else can be said.

You would think major league teams would learn from previous ill conceived giveaways and promotions gone awry.

The most famous promotions gone wrong are the Cleveland Indians selling Stroh’s Beer in eight ounce cups for 10 cents and Disco Demolition Night at a Chicago White Sox game.  The offer included an all you can drink deal so by the time the disco demolition was about to take place, most of the 25,134 fans were full of alcohol and chaos ensued at Municipal Stadium.
