Yankees Should Be Wary of Whiplash Injury to Gardner

Late in the game between the New York Yankees and the Washington Nationals on Thursday evening, Nationals outfielder Austin Kearns hit a ball high and far into center field.

Yankee outfielder Brett Gardner went back on the ball, caught it about two feet from the wall, and then slammed into the pad hitting his head on the plexiglass in front of the bullpens.

Replays showed that his head snapped back violently before striking the glass.

Gardner managed to hang onto the ball for an out and somehow flipped it toward left fielder Johnny Damon could retrieve it.

Francisco Rodriguez Is Latest in Long Line of Ailing Mets

Add Francisco Rodriguez to the list of decommissioned Mets—however temporarily.

The closer left Saturday night’s game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park with back spasms. He collapsed and was sent to the hospital.

This is starting to get ridiculous. One of the guys who seemed impervious to pain, K-Rod just broke down.

Young Listed Day-To-Day, Should Be 100% For Opening Day

Not only did Michael Young have to spend his Spring Training learning an entirely new position, but now he is dealing with a left quadriceps injury that continues to nag him.

This past weekend he missed back-to-back games after feeling some tightness in his left quad.  On Tuesday he returned to the lineup, but was only able to last one inning.

After singling in the top part of the first inning and then playing the field in the bottom part, he was pulled from the game.

Injury News and Analysis: March 19th, 2009

Sorry for the delay but without further ado.

Cole Hamels’ evaluation came back relatively clean.  There was no structural damage after having an MRI and an ultrasound on his elbow and Philly fans can take a collectively sigh of relief.  He’s diagnosed with tendinitis, but Opening Day is still doubt.  The concern I have is the extreme jump in innings last year and the link to injury.  Additionally, I think you can get similar production much lower in the draft.
