Purity of the game means passion and joy when on the field. It means players would be there competing even if there was no money involved. Purists dream baseball, and live baseball when they are not near a field. Baseball is who they are.
I love baseball. I love the smell of baseball and "edge-of-your-seat" anticipation of not knowing what will happen next. This is what makes baseball what it is. The not knowing what will happen. I love the smell of hotdogs and crisp fall air. The scratching and the spitting. The whiskers on overweight managers ...... I'm totally on board. It is a magical time of the season for us baseball fanatics.
But like all professional sports, baseball is being ruined by corporate zeal for profit prioritized over fan participation. Pure love of the game is being replaced by blatant worship of money, so that our favorite teams are pricing tickets so high, that simple fans no longer can attend games.
The New York Yankees lead the league in resources. They earn the most of any team in baseball, and they spend the most too. They are the best team money can buy and are in the playoffs every year because of it.
But can this be fun for them or their fans? What joy is there in plowing over the less fortunate when the fiscal deck is stacked? Why would any fan be excited by a purchased team of All-Stars plowing over the opposition like a college team dominating little leaguers?
Hence this Seattle Mariner loyalist is fed up. Perhaps it is because my team sucks, but I would rather sit through a six hour life insurance presentation than endure one more inning watching corporate baseball at it's worse, Hence my ten following reasons why I absolutely detest the New York Yankees and what they are doing to the game!
