Anthony Bosch Sentenced to 4 Years in Biogenesis Scandal

Anthony Bosch was sentenced to four years in federal prison for his role in the Biogenesis scandal that rocked Major League Baseball and also involved high school athletes.

Jasmine Kripalani of CBS4 News in Miami broke the news:

Gabe Lacques of USA Today reported back in August, when Bosch pleaded guilty, that he was facing up to 10 years for conspiracy to distribute testosterone. It was also noted he supplied performance-enhancing drugs to 18 minors along with professional athletes.

CNN's Ray Sanchez and Susan Candiotti reported in August that Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez was among Bosch's high-profile clients.

Kripalani passed along some of the statements from U.S. District Court Judge Darrin Gayles as part of the sentencing:

Teri Thompson, Nathaniel Vinton and Michael O'Keeffe of the New York Daily News report the sentence falls within the current federal guidelines for the crime. They also provided comments from Bosch during the court appearance.

"My addiction took the best of me," Bosch said. "I can't put into words how sorry I am."

Jay Weaver of the Miami Herald previously noted Bosch lied to federal agents about his cocaine use during the process of the case. Five times he told them he wasn't under the influence of drugs, but he tested positive twice during the time frame of those meetings with federal agents.

Kripalani said Bosch had to surrender to U.S. Marshals shortly after the case closed:

The New York Daily News report stated Bosch is still scheduled to testify against Yuri Sucart, Alex Rodriguez's cousin, and ex-University of Miami pitching coach Lazaro Collazo should those cases make it to trial. They are currently scheduled for April.

News of Bosch's sentence comes one day before MLB will open spring training. Rodriguez is set to return to the New York Yankees after a season-long suspension.
