Best Trade in Mets History?

We are all aware of the Mets bad decisions in the past when it comes to trades and free agent signings. I mean they traded Nolan Ryan for a bag of broken bats pretty much.

Nolan has seven more no hitters then the Mets have in their history. The Mets have made some okay trades throughout their history.

The two trades I feel are the best in Mets history occurred in 1983 and 1998. In 1983, the Mets acquired Keith Hernandez for the St. Louis Cardinals for Neil Allen and Rick Ownbey.

Hernandez helped bring a title to Flushing in 1986. In his seven years as a Met, Keith brought home a gold glove along with a stiller bat.

He hit .297 with 80 home runs. It wasn’t just hit qualities on the field that made him great, it was the attitude he brought to the ballpark every game that made him and the people around him winners.

The other trade up for debate was when the Mets acquired Mike Piazza from the Florida Marlins for Preston Wilson, Geoff Goetz and Ed Yarnell. Piazza’s first five years as a Met we’re fantastic.

He was an offensive force, unlike anything seen from a catcher since Jonny Bench. In his nine years as a Met, Mike collected over 1000 hits and over 220 homers.

Although Piazza wasn’t great defensively he was able to get the job done. He was able to lead the Mets into the playoffs in 1999 and to the World Series in 2000.

Whenever the Mets needed a huge hit you knew Piazza would come through. There are so many memories of Mike winning games, whether it be the first game back from September 11th game winning homer or the epic 10 run comeback the Mets had also against the Atlanta Braves.
