Breaking News: Seattle Mariners Trade Yuniesky Betancourt To KC

The Seattle Mariners have just won the World Series.

Ok, they didn’t, but to Mariners fans it feels like they did.

The Mariners finally made the move that fans had been waiting for.

Seattle traded shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt to the Kansas City Royals for two minor league pitchers Friday afternoon.

In the deal, Seattle received Double-A starting pitcher Danny Cortes and Single-A reliever Derrick Saito.

"(Cortes is) a big kid with a real good arm," Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said. "We've been watching him the past few weeks and were real impressed with what we saw."

Zduriencik orchestrated yet another great deal. According to Baseball America, Cortes was the No. 3 prospect in the Royals' system.

On the season, Cortes has a 6-6 record, 3.92 ERA, 57 strikeouts, and 50 walks in 15 games started. In his last start, he went six innings and gave up two earned runs, one walk, and struck out.

Saito is 2-6 with a 4.15 ERA and 53 strikeouts this season.
