Daniel Murphy Ties MLB Record with 5th Consecutive Postseason Game with Home Run

You can't be any more locked in than Daniel Murphy is right now.

In the top of the third inning of Game 3 of the National League Championship Series on Tuesday night, the New York Mets second baseman hit his fifth home run in as many games, which tied an MLB record, according to Fox Sports' Jon Morosi.

With the score tied and no one on base, Murphy took a 2-1 offering from the Chicago Cubs' Kyle Hendricks and powered it over the center field wall to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.

Murphy has been the Mets' most valuable player this postseason with six home runs, including the game-winner off Zack Greinke in the decisive Game 5 of a National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The ball has been flying out of the park at a remarkable pace for Murphy, as the New York Post's Joel Sherman pointed out:

Greinke, a favorite to win the Cy Young Award, isn't the only ace Murphy has taken deep in the playoffs. The seven-year veteran has hit home runs against Clayton Kershaw (two), Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta.

Murphy has also broken Mike Piazza's club record of five postseason long balls, per ESPN Stats & Info. Piazza made it to one World Series with the Mets in 2000. Murphy has a chance to get there in 2015. New York already has a 2-0 series lead, and his go-ahead, record-breaking home run put the Mets in good position to get even closer to their first pennant in 15 years.
