There's not usually a lot of laughter when the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees get together, but there was some on Thursday night.
Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz decided to have some fun with Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who was playing his final home game against Boston, by squaring to bunt in the first inning. With the shift on, Jeter had to sprint in to guard against the bunt. The whole situation had both Ortiz and Jeter cracking up.
The smile didn't last too long for Jeter, however, because Big Papi homered on the very next pitch.
Ortiz may be able to get a single by bunting against the shift, but this is Big Papi we're talking about here.
Swinging away is much more like Ortiz, evidenced by the first pitch of his very next at-bat.
Here's a recap: Ortiz squared to bunt on the first pitch he saw in the game. On each of the next two pitches he faced, he hit a home run. Swinging works well for Big Papi.
Ortiz's blasts weren't enough for Boston, however. The Yankees walked off with a 5-4 victory.
