Off Day Nonsense II

I don’t normally write about the Cubs, or any other team for that matter, unless they are playing the Reds.

However, Carlos Zambrano’s meltdown yesterday couldn’t go unmentioned. Click here for the video and here for the complete rundown.

After the home plate umpire ejected Zambrano from the bgame, Big Z responded with his own ejection gesture telling the ump he should be the one ejected from the game. It was during that scene in which the following picture was taken.

Is that Lou Piniella smiling in the background??? It’s almost as if Lou, a professional in the art of arguing calls and making scenes, is admiring the work of one of his protégés.

Though I don’t like the Cubs, I have to admit this was pretty funny.

Get Out and Vote!

Joey Votto

Don’t forget to vote early and often for the All-Star Game. Joey Votto is going to need a little help getting in, so make it happen.

If you need any more convincing as to why he deserves an invitation, look no further.

The Bum Report

Former Red Matt Belisle may have passed another former Red, Josh Fogg, on I-25 yesterday and never knew about it. Belisle cleared waivers and was sent to AAA Colorado Springs while Fogg was recalled from the same affiliate. Colorado loves them some Josh Fogg for some reason.

Paul Bako signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies last week. When is he going to hang up the ol’ mitt and mask? When he eventually does make that decision, might Paul Bako make a good manager some day?

Corey Patterson is still with the Washington Nationals AAA affiliate in Syracuse where he’s batting .234. I don’t foresee a call-up in his future.

Eric Milton pitched five innings of seven-hit baseball and allowed only one run for the Dodgers earlier this week. Granted, he was playing against the Rockies.

Now, don’t you appreciate the 2009 Cincinnati Reds so much more?
