Dodgers Claim Rod Barajas

It was announced today that the Los Angeles Dodgers have claimed Rod Barajas off waivers from the New York Mets.

It appears that the Dodgers will be sending cash considerations to the Mets in exchange for Barajas.

This move reflects the directions that these two teams are heading. The Mets get out paying Barajas the rest of his salary and are receiving money in return.

Since Barajas was to be a free agent at the end of the year, the Mets are showing that they are ready to give up on this season and look to the future. Hopefully, they use some of the money on a free agent signing this offseason.

The Mets called up Jesus Felicano to replace Barajas on their roster. The move will also allow the Mets to give Josh Thole more playing time.

The Dodgers are getting a player who will fill the hole that was left when Russell Martin was lost for the season with a hip injury. Barajas is not a great addition for the Dodgers, but he is an upgrade over A.J. Ellis and Brad Ausmus.

Barajas will provide the Dodgers with some power and run production. However, Barajas will not get on base much. Barajas had a .225 batting average and .263 on base percentage with 12 home runs and 34 RBI in 74 games with the Mets this year.
