Dodgers Send Cubs' Jake Arrieta the Rubber & Dirt from Mound After His No-Hitter

Only a handful of no-hitters are thrown each year at the major league level, and should a team fall victim to one, morale can quickly plummet. While one team celebrates ecstatically, the other quietly saunters into an even quieter clubhouse.

On Sunday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers were no-hit by Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta, resulting in a 2-0 loss. Despite the frustrating defeat, the organization toughed it out and showed the highest level of class in addressing the loss.

Arrieta opened up on the kind gesture the Dodgers presented to him, per ESPN.com's Jesse Rogers:

Really nice gesture. They sent a bucket of dirt from the mound, and they dug up the pitching rubber, which weighed 60 pounds. That's something I'll cherish as much or more than anything I've been given throughout the process.

That deserves a tip of the cap, if ever a gesture were worthy.
