Farm Report: OF Greg Halman, Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners No. 1 prospect for 2009, outfielder Greg Halman, is currently wit the class AA West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx.

Halman is the starting center fielder for West Tennessee. He's currently hitting .216 with 12 HR, 29 hits, 30 RBI, 2 SB and 57 SO in 134 at-bats this season.

Halman is one of the many power hitters in the Mariners farm system. The only problem with Halman is that he strikes out way to much and he's not patient.

Halman only has seven walks to his 57 strikeouts.

There is a lot of upside in Halman's game. He's got great power, something the major league team lacks. He's got pretty good speed, but he's nowhere near Endy Chavez and Ichiro.

Halman leads West Tennessee by a wide margin with 12 HR. The next-closest home run threat to Halman is first baseman Thomas Hubbard who has four.

The ETA (estimated time of arrival to the major leagues) on Halman is 2010. Next year, Halman could possibly be in an outfield that includes slugger Wladimir Balentien, Ichiro, Franklin Gutierrez, and top young prospect Michael Saunders. That's more of a power-slugging outfield than the defensive outfield the Mariners have this season.

It might take a month for Halman to get going when he reaches the majors but I think with the veterans around him, he shouldn't have a problem after that, because of the great support around him.
