Look on the Bright Side...at Least You're Not a White Sox Fan

I have nothing against the White Sox.  I’ve been to that new stadium of theirs, and it was really nice.  Carlos Quentin played on my fantasy team last year and was great until he broke his own hand.  Their manager is really funny in a “glad he does not run my team” sort of way, and I think they won the World Series a few year ago.

But I have to admit, sometimes it is fun to laugh at another’s misfortune.  And from that perspective, this has to be one of the worst and, therefore, one of the funniest days in White Sox history (I would say the worst, but this is, after all, a team that threw the 1919 World Series).

I mean, which is more painful? Losing 20-1 at home to the Twins or having Jake Peavy say “thanks, but no thanks” to a trade proposal.

Imagine that you are Jake Peavy: “So, the deals say I drop my no-trade clause and agree to leave Southern California to live in Chicago and play for a team that actually has a worse record than the bankrupt Padres.  Oh, and I would have to play in the American League, despite the fact that I have said over and over and over again that I am strictly a National League guy.  Hmmm…let me think about that one.  What?  Twenty to one?  Right.  Can someone please call the Dodgers?”

Maybe Peavy will have a change of heart (or a head injury) and decide to go to Chicago after all.  Great, we all get to watch one of the greatest pitchers on the planet pitch his team to a .500 record.  Much better than having him inserted into an actual pennant race.

Or, maybe he will publicly state that he would love to pitch in Chicago, for the Cubs.

Now that would be hilarious.
