Somebody get on the phone to the Governor General Michelle Jean and tell her to give Ricky Romero an honourary Canadian citizenship, because he did this fair nation proud today.
Representing Canada's baseball team in the special Canada Day jersey, Ricky Romero pitched his second straight shutout game on the way to a 4-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.
RR Cool Jay was fantastic, but he had some help thanks to a couple of double plays late in the game which kept the Rays off the scoreboard. A pretty incredible feat considering that the Rays have only been shut out two other times this season.
Today's Canada Day jerseys weren't as ugly as I expected them to be. They were certainly better than previous attempts at weaving some sort of Canadiana onto the uniforms. While it would've been perfect to have Scott Richmond pitch on Canada Day, Ricky Romero did a fine job on our country's birthday.
Thanks Ricky, for doing us proud. As far as I'm concerned, you're as Canadian as SCTV.
