According to George King of the NY Post, even though it is not yet official, the Yankees are expected to visit the White House on their off-day a week from today. They will be honored for winning last year’s World Series by Barack Obama.

It hasn’t been made official but the Yankees will spend part of their day off a week from today at the White House, where they will be honored for winning the 2009 World Series by White Sox fan President Obama.
It will be the third time since 2001 the Yankees will be honored at the White House. They were honored in 2001 by George W. Bush that year for winning the 2000 World Series. In 1999 Bill Clinton toasted them for sweeping the 1998 Series. Last April, after failing to make the playoffs in 2008, a small group of Yankees that included Joba Chamberlain and Nick Swisher, took a tour of the White House.
The Yankees open a three-game series against the woeful Orioles the next night.
Thoughts: It is very cool to see that the Yankees are going to be honored at the White House. It means your team is being recognized as the greatest in the sport. Of course, Barack Obama has already met most of the Yankees including Derek Jeter. I wonder though, when Jeter first met Obama, was it a greater honor to meet the President or to meet Jeter?
