Nick Adenhart's Death: A Black Cloud Over the MLB Season

The 2009 MLB season has a few games under it's belt. Some pretty exciting things have happened already, such as the Braves hitting eight home runs in three games, and the New York Yankees starting out 0-2. However, today the season turned sad.

Nick Adenhart, 22, a rookie Angels pitcher, died in a car accident early this morning.

Two others also died in the accident. The first thing that came to mind waas Bobby Phills, a Hornets NBA basketball player that died racing his car after practice one day, but this wasn't Adenhart's fault. A minivan ran a red light and hit his car into a power pole.

The season will never be the same in the Angels clubhouse, or throughout Major League Baseball. It will be a sobering thought that it could happen to anyone at any time. I expect and hope the Angels will now dedicate the season to him.

A few hours before his death, Adenhart started, and pitched well, allowing no runs on seven hits in six innings. Hopefully this means he was happy just before he died.

Let us all stop to appreciate the sanctity of life, and to remember a young professional who will miss most of his life through no fault of his own. We're sorry to see you go, but we all hope you are in a better place.
