The Colorado Rockies are two years removed from their World Series run in 2007 and things couldn't be more different. Last year, they finished with a 74-88 record. They finished fourth in the NL West.
This offseason, the Rockies made some big trades. They traded power hitter Matt Holliday to Oakland and in return got prospect Carlos Gonzalez, pitcher Greg Smith, and closer Huston Street. With the Street deal, the Rockies released Brian Fuentes.
The Rockies will finish last in the division this year because the Padres will have Chris Young and Jake Peavy to get them through the year. The Rockies' lineup will not do as well. Todd Helton's production will decrease and you will not see anything from Troy Tulowitzki or Brad Hawpe this year.
The staff, led by Aaron Cook might have some success. Cook was 16-9 last year with a 3.96 ERA. Ubaldo Jiminez will need more than a 12-12 record to get by and bringing up the rear in the rotation is Jason Marquis who was 11-9 last year.
Keep an eye on: Ian Stewart, 3b
Ian Stewart will backup Garrett Atkins this year at third base. Stewart might see some action after he hit 10 homers and drove in 41 runs in 81 games. He could see more action if Atkins' production starts to slip.
