Reds-Astros: Owings Two RBI Double Helps Down Houston 4-2

Reds starter Edinson Volquez (2-1) had a little problem with his control, but didn't pitch badly and got the the victory. Volquez worked six innings of four-hit, one-run baseball while striking out seven and walking five.

Reliever Arthur Rhodes got into some trouble in the seventh after an error by Joey Votto, but forced a double play and got the other out to escape without giving up any runs.

David Weathers pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the eighth inning to protect the lead.

Closer Francisco Cordero got his third save of the season, but not before making it interesting by walking two and giving up a run.

The Reds batters started how they left off as AAA call-up Felipe Paulinio worked six innings of three-hit ball with zero runs while striking out six Reds and walking only two.

The Reds got it going in the seventh off Houston relievers when Jerry Hariston Jr. scored on a RBI single by Catcher Ramon Hernandez to tie the game at 1-1.

Later in the inning, PH Micah Owings crushed a two RBI double off the wall that just missed being a three run homer to put the Reds out in front for good.

In the top of the ninth, PH Darnell McDonald hit a stand up triple which would result in the final run for the Reds, as Willy Taveras hit a SAC fly to score McDonald.

The Reds are now 6-5 and will play Houston tomorrow at 8:05 ET to close out the series.

Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo (2-0) will take on Houston's veteran pitcher Mike Hampton (1-1)
