Reds Cut Three From Their Spring Roster

The Reds made three more roster moves today, cutting outfielders Jacque Jones and Norris Hopper and young pitcher Daryl Thompson. They were all re-assigned to Class AAA Louisville.

Jones was by far the biggest name on the list, as he was previously a leading candidate for playing time in the outfield. But he batted very poorly (a lousy .089 in 45 at-bats) this spring.

Norris Hopper also lacked offense, batting only .185 (5-for-37) with three steals. He played very little last year while battling injuries.

Thompson never really got a shot due to the depth in the Cincy rotation and 'pen. He made just one appearance this spring, pitching two scoreless innings.

This puts the Reds down to 33 players on the roster, with six days till opening day. The roster will have to be down to 25 by then.

With seven players left to get the "red tag," it will be interesting to see who makes Cincinnati's final squad.
