Rickie Weeks Out For Season

Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks led off yesterday’s game against the division rival St. Louis Cardinals with a strikeout swinging. After being fanned to begin the game, he had pain in his wrist, and left the game.

He has now been declared out for the season with an injured left wrist.

Weeks was off to a good start for the Brew Crew before ending his year early in Busch Stadium on Sunday. He had a club-leading nine home runs, one more than superstar teammate Ryan Braun. He also had 24 RBI thus far, and finished hitting .272 with two stolen bases and 28 runs, a category he also leads the team in.

There is no doubt that this is a huge blow for the Brewers.

Last season, the team fell short in the NLDS to the soon-World Champion Phillies. In the off-season, they lost aces Ben Sheets and CC Sabathia to free agency. The loss of Weeks certainly does not help. Since 2003, Weeks has averaged 20 home runs, 61 RBI, and 27 stolen bases every 162 games with a career average of .247.
