News and Notes

- Damaso Marte threw a 30-pitch bullpen session yesterday in Tampa. He did not report any problems and will throw another side session tomorrow and pitch in a game sometime this weekend.

- Peter Abraham says on his blog that Chien-Ming Wang will not even swing the bat during his at-bats today. Nix that, the Astros have agreed to use the DH today. So Robinson Cano will be DHing and batting second.

- Mariano Rivera feels fine after pitching in a game last night for the first time this spring.

- Ramiro Pena has a minor groin injury.

- The Yanks added three to their roster for the game, Justin Snyder, Addison Maruszak and Eric Duncan.

- Former Yankee and current Astro, Aaron Boone is done for the season because he has a heart condition and will need open heart surgery.

"I have been diagnosed as having a heart condition involving the aorta and aortic valve," Boone said, flanked by nearly the entire Astros team at a Wednesday morning press conference in a meeting room at the Osceola County Stadium complex.

Tough break for the author of one of the greatest Yankee moments ever. Hopefully everything works out.

UPDATE 1:45 p.m.: Gotta run out for a little so this will be my first and last in-game update for a while. The Astros took a 1-0 lead in the first when Jason Smith tripled and then scored on a Carlos Lee RBI single.

It's still 1-0 Astros after three and a half.

UPDATE 3:17 p.m.: OK, I'm back. The Yankees took a 2-1 lead with two runs in the top of the 7th. Melky Cabrera and Angel Berroa drove in the runs.

Chien-Ming Wang pitched five innings, allowing a run on three hits, and he struck out two.

UPDATE 3:54 p.m.: The Yanks added two more in the top of the ninth on an Eric Duncan two-run single to make it 4-1 and that's how the game ended.
Stick around and discuss the game as it happens in the comments section.
