Tampa Bay Rays-Boston Red Sox in Extra Innings

Bottom of the Ninth Inning

Friday night's Game One resumed in the bottom of the ninth inning at Fenway Park after a suspended game was called by the umpires due to rain.

The Rays reliever, Lance Cormier, has the task of gunning down the Red Sox.

Ortiz was the man the Red Sox wanted up in a clutch situation two years ago. Presently he is still struggling to find his swing.

David Ortiz hit a long foul into right field causing the Red Sox Nation to stand. Ortiz hit a shot but it was knocked down by Pena for the first out.

Adrian Beltre hit a chopper to Longoria to put him out.

Jeremy Hermida is owned by Lance Cormier and took a seat after being blown away.

Cormier retired the side and took the game into extra innings.

Extra Innings

Jonathan Papelbon missed his outing due to the birth of his son. Gunner Robert Papelbon was born a few hours before the game.

Daniel Bard takes the hill at the top of the tenth.

Bard sits down Pat Burrell with a nasty slider for the first out.

A grounder to Youkilis gave the second out of the inning.

Bard throws some 98 mph fast balls past Navarro to get the whiff.

Jason Varitek is the first out with a fly ball to kick off the bottom of the tenth.

Victor Martinez pinch hits for a 0-3 Bill Hall. V-mart hits a dribbler for the second out of the inning.

Marco Scutaro was 0-4 when he stepped in the box. Scutaro grounded to Longoria for the long out.

11th Inning

In the top of the 11th, Bard is still throwing the heat. He finishes the inning with a few pop flies. The Rays just can’t seem to catch up with his fast ball.

JD Drew gets a solid hit to represent the winning run.

The scrappy Dustin Pedroia knocks one into right field for a hit moving Drew to second.

The video game cover boy, Evan Longoria, bobbles the ball, leaving the Red Sox with the bases drunk.

Ortiz was up to finish the Rays. But the grounder to Pena gets the force out at home.

Pedroia waited on third expecting to be the winning run.

Adrian Beltre grounds to Longoria who steps on third and throws to first for the double play.

The Red Sox left the inning without the game ending run.

12th Inning

Daniel Bard was on fire and it did not look like he could be touched, but Manny Delcarmen replaces Bard for the Red Sox.

Longoria was the first one at the plate with hopes of redemption for the previous error.

The third baseman gets the pass to first base for the go ahead run.

Carlos Pena tried to poke one into left but Hermida raced in to get the first out.

BJ Upton hits shot to left but Hermida handled it for second out.

Pat Burrell spanks one over the Green Monster after Delcarmen throws him a meat ball.

Delcarmen finishes the inning with a fly out to JD Drew.

The Tampa Bay Rays take the lead with three to one in the top of the 12th.

Jeremy Hermida needed to get something going for the Red Sox but he strikes out again.

The captain, Jason Varitek, has the only RBI for Red Sox. Varitek hits one in the gap for a double.

Mike Cameron pops out to Longoria for the second out.

Marco Scutaro flied out to end the game. Scutaro was 0-6 and had a error yesterday.

The Red Sox seemed to have the game secured when they had the bases loaded, but were not able to bring anyone to the dish.

The Red Sox aren't looking good with Ellsbury out with bruised ribs, Mike Cameron suffering from kidney stones, and David Ortiz in a horrible slump.

Lance Cormier was impressive in his relief appearance.

Final Score:  Rays 3, Red Sox 1 after twelve innings of play.

Game Two started about a half hour after the conclusion of the extra innings battle.
