Yankees Place Chan Ho Park on the DL, Call Up Boone Logan to New York

As expected, the Yankees have put relief pitcher Chan Ho Park on the 15-day disabled list after he pulled his right hamstring warming up in the bullpen yesterday. Taking his place on the roster is left-handed pitcher Boone Logan.

Park has already begun to establish himself as an important member of the Yankees' bullpen this season. Although a bout of diarrhea caused him to struggle in his first appearance, Park has had two strong appearances since then, going five innings and only allowing one run. Overall he has a 4.76 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.

The injury isn’t expected to be serious, but Park is 36 years old and the Yankees are being cautious. An MRI revealed a low-level strain on the same hamstring, although in a different spot, that he injured last year. He should be able to come off the DL as soon as the 15 days are up.

Logan has a career 5.78 ERA in 164 career games with the Chicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves. His mid-90s fastball got the Yankees' attention in spring training, and in his first three minor league appearances he has a 1.35 ERA over 6.2 innings.

Manager Joe Girardi has left open the possibility that Logan would not simply be a situational lefty, but according to his career numbers, a 1.43 WHIP vs. lefties and a 1.96 WHIP against righties, he would be much better off just facing lefties.
