Yankees Spring Training: A Good Day For The Kids

The Yankees won their eigth in a row today with a 4-2 win over the Twins in Fort Myers. Phil Hughes started for the Yanks and had a good outing. He went 4.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits and a walk. He threw 65 pitches, 41 for strikes.

Jason Johnson relieved Hughes and went 1.2 innings also allowing a run on three hits and a walk.

Anthony Claggett pitched a scoreless inning.

David Robertson added 1.1 scoreless, striking out three along the way.

Although he didn't have his best stuff, Kei Igawa continues to pitch a shutout for the spring. He allowing a hit and two walks in just .2 innings pitched, but he did get out of it without allowing a run.

Three Yankees homered on the day. Mark Teixeira went 1-for-3 and hit his first of the spring, a solo shot off Twins' closer Joe Nathan. Austin Jackson went 1-for-4 and hit his second of the spring. Todd Linden who went 1-for-2, also homered.

Brett Gardner went 1-for-3 with a stolen base.

Robinson Cano played five innings at second base and said “I felt good. There was no pain. Everything was perfect.” He also went 1-for-3.

It was another day the Yankees spread the hits around as nine Yankees picked up hits.

Over at the Yankees minor-league complex Andy Pettitte pitched 5.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. He threw 65 pitched, 44 for strikes.

The Yanks take on the Tigers tomorrow at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Joba Chamberlain will start for Yanks, and he'll face Seton Hall Prep star Rick Porcello. Game time is set for 1:05 p.m.
