While this puts a major damper on the Cardinals playoff hopes, last year's Major League Baseball playoff participants are faced with questions of their own.

Whether it's the New York Yankees or the World Champion San Francisco Giants, each of these teams will have to address major concerns if they hope to play deep into October for consecutive seasons.

Adam Wainwright: Dave Duncan Struggles with Tommy John Surgeries in 2011

With news of Adam Wainwright’s elbow injury and his impending Tommy John surgery, Dave Duncan has his work cut out for him to get a starting rotation ready for the 2011 season.

Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman tweeted this morning that "freddy garcia has leg up for no. 4 starter spot but its wide open for no. 5."

Pittsbugh Pirates: Why Can't They Be the 'Why Not' MLB Team of 2011?

It's that time of year again.  The time of year when you hear all the lines from players and managers about how good they can be this year, no matter what past history says.  You know, the "everybody starts out with the same record" or the always clever "we had a lot of injuries last year" excuse.

Philadelphia Phillies Preview: Will Roy Oswalt Struggle in 'Lame Duck' Year?

Philadelphia assembling their four aces over the last seven months they are early favorites to win the World Series this season.  Considering that Oswalt is 33 and turning 34 in August he is getting up there in age for a pitcher, and he might be going on the decline soon.
