New York Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez recorded the 3,000th hit of his career on a solo home run off of Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander in the first inning of Friday's 7-2 win, joining Derek Jeter as the only players to reach the 3,000-hit mark in a Yankees uniform, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Days after recording his 2,000th career RBI, Alex Rodriguez has joined another exclusive club. 

At the middle of June, the Mets are currently 36-32 and in first place in the NL East. They certainly look to be contenders this season, but whether they can successfully hold off the Washington Nationals and win the division or take one of the wild-card spots remains to be seen. It will not be easy and the Mets will have to be more consistent, particularly on the road, to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

Most of the Mets' core is in place right now, but injuries have certainly had an effect up to this point.

Boston Red Sox All-Star second baseman Dustin Pedroia has returned to the lineup on June 20 after missing three of the team's last four games after a knee injury suffered on June 15, per Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe.

Pedroia has been banged up at various stages of his MLB career, never quite making it through a full 162 games in any season.

The San Diego Padres wasted little time replacing Bud Black after firing him Monday, naming Pat Murphy as the interim manager for the remainder of the season, according to a release posted on the team's Twitter account.
