Two more former New York Yankees are headed to Monument Park.    

After a long, illustrious and at times controversial career that began in 1995 with the Oakland Athletics, Jason Giambi announced his retirement from Major League Baseball on Monday.

The New York Yankees want embattled superstar Alex Rodriguez to meet with the media in an attempt to avoid a major distraction at the start of spring training next week.

Since officially taking over for Bud Selig in January, new Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred has been proactive about trying to speed up the game and add more offense. The most recent plan would be the biggest so far under his short tenure.

According to Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan, the league is weighing the idea of shrinking the strike zone:

Reliever Kelvin Herrera was a huge part of the 2014 Kansas City Royals team that reached the World Series. The club recognized that, avoiding arbitration by re-signing him to a two-year, $4.15 million deal, per CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

Questions remain as to when Miguel Cabrera will be ready for the 2015 MLB season after he had ankle surgery in October of last year.    

The bullpen was arguably the biggest driving force behind the Kansas City Royals' Cinderella run to the World Series last season. Because of that, the defending American League champions have locked up Kelvin Herrera.

The 22-year-old outfielder posted the video above on Instagram of him using a Happy Gilmore approach to driving off the tee.

The result? A 340-yard drive.

Whether or not the fractured relationship between the New York Yankees front office and Alex Rodriguez can be completely repaired, general manager Brian Cashman is going to give it a shot.
