Brett Gardner Daily Update: April 19, 2010

Brett Gardner did everything he could have possibly done to help the New York Yankees sweep the Texas Rangers in their weekend series.

On Friday night, Gardner did not start the game. He came in as a pinch runner and immediately stole second base and then scored a run.

On Saturday. Gardner started in left field and went 3-4 hitting in the nine hole. He also scored two runs, drove in one run and stole another base.  All of his hits were infield hits where Gardner used his speed to get on base.

New York Yankees Firing on All Cylinders to Begin The Season

If there has been one thing that has plagued the New York Yankees the past few years, it has been their slow starts to the season. The Yanks then have to finish the season strong to be in contention.

However, 2010 is starting off great for the reigning World Series Champions.

The Yankees are 7-3 entering Saturday's afternoon game against the visiting Texas Rangers. The Yankees are a half-game in front of Tampa Bay and Toronto, and two-and-a-half games ahead of the Red Sox.

It was important for the Yankees to get off to a fast start for a few reasons.

Brett Gardner Daily Update: April 15, 2010

Brett Gardner was 0-3 for the New York Yankees. Not zero for three at bats in yesterday's loss to the Angels.

Gardner is zero for the last three games. In a total of 10 at bats in the last three Yankee games, Gardner has not gotten a hit.

He did get one walk yesterday and scored one of the Yankee runs.

Gardner is not the only Yankee struggling right now. The most obvious is Mark Teixeira. But Teixeira has enough credit in the bank to run up some lousy numbers, even for the entire month of April.
