There were a few concerns for the Colorado Rockies, the team that many experts picked as the favorite to unseat the defending world champion and division rival San Francisco Giants.

One week into the 2011 season, those expectations don't seem too out of reach. 

With all the positives that this season could potentially bring, there are, of course, some things the team still needs to work on.

The Colorado Rockies are the overwhelming favorite of baseball writers to win the 2011 NL West crown.  With a collection of young players who possess an excellent combination of speed and power, the Rockies will certainly score a bunch of runs this year. Despite an excellent offense, the club will need a solid performance from their pitching staff to dethrone the defending champion San Francisco Giants.

Although Rocktober magic has made the club's recent slow starts a distant memory, the Rockies entered 2011 determined to get off on a better foot than in previous seasons.

Coming off of a less than stellar 7-11 2010 record against the divisional rivals, the Los Angeles, Dodgers, the Rockies welcomed an early season opportunity to make a statement that they are a force to be reckoned with in the 2011 Wild Wild NL West.

The Colorado Rockies completed a two-game sweep of their division rival Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday afternoon to take a half-game lead in the NL West over the San Diego Padres.

Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki hit a two-run shot in the fourth and first baseman Todd Helton added a solo bomb to right field, driving in three combined runs. Tulowitzki now has two homers in as many nights, while Helton's home run was his first of the year.

The Colorado Rockies announced on Wednesday that ace Ubaldo Jimenez will start the season on the disabled list.

The Colorado Rockies have gone from being the laughing stock of the National League to a contender.

Mother Nature likes to play tricks on you, especially when you live in Colorado.

One day after the Colorado Rockies took the field to unseasonably high temperatures for Denver in April, they were forced to put their Opening Week series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks on ice. Literally.

Freezing temperatures and driving snow and rain forced the Rockies to postpone their rubber match with the Diamondbacks on Sunday, sending many expecting a game home frustrated. 

Never trust the weather in Colorado. Especially in the spring.

Pitching wins championships.

If the old saying is true, then the Rockies are going to need to figure out a way to keep their starters healthy.

Two games into the season and the Rockies have had two pitchers deal with injuries that may result in trips to the disabled list.

On Saturday, Colorado went back to the clubhouse with a 3-1 win, but they did so while watching their starting pitcher leave with a finger injury.
