Lucky Number 13: Yankees Avoid Scalping at the Hands of Indians

A string of bad luck and unfortunate breaks for the Yankees finally subsided on Sunday afternoon. Ironically, it occurred during the team’s 13th game of the season.

While Yankees pitcher A.J. Burnett struggled with his curveball all start long, he was able to perform his best Houdini impersonation. Two home runs and seven walks later, the Yankees still only trailed 3-1.

Astros Defeat Reds 7-0, behind a Two Hit Effort from Rodriguez

It was one of those games where you would have taken some of these runs last night, but it was a great win for Houston.
Wandy Rodriguez pitched another great game, getting his first win of the season.
Geoff Blum led the squad today with three RBI.
Bourn 1-5, 1 H, 1 R, 3 SO, 4 LOB, SB
Tejada 1-4, 2 R, SB
Berkman 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 LOB (Berkman has as many strike outs this season as he does walks, 11)
Lee 3-3, 3 Hits, 1 RBI, 2 R, BB
Pence 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K, 4 LOB, SB
Blum 3-4, 3 RBI, 1 R,

Reds-Astros: Aaron Harang, Jared Burton Pitch Poorly as Reds Are Shut Out 7-0

The Cincinnati Reds couldn't find any offensive spark, as Houston starter Wandy Rodriguez had an easy day on the hill.

Reds starter Aaron Harang worked six plus innings giving up five earned runs while striking out six and walking one on 10 hits in the loss.

Reliever Jared Burton came in to work the sixth after Aaron Harang was in trouble and was rocked once again giving up two earned on three hits.

Louis Skolnick Leads the Yankees 20-2 After 5 Innings

One game does not make a season.

April games don't count.

Come see me in October.

Oh yeah, what is the Red Sox record?

26 World Championships, baby.

Got rings?

I know all the cliches, and every one of them is, or may be, true. I am well aware that at some point the Red Sox or the Rays may be equally embarrassed. I am quite certain that the Yankees are not going to be a .500 team on October 1, and feel confident that their Championship drought will not go on indefinitely.

Toronto—Oakland: Overbay's Walk Off Brings Jays, Game, and Fans to Life

For a game that started off based around the small ball the ending was much more powerful and much more dramatic.

Lyle Overbay came up to bat with two outs and Jose Bautista on first. He then sent the 1-0 pitch Dan Giese threw to deep right-centre to seal the game. The homerun came in the 12 inning to give the Jays a 4-2 win Saturday.

“I was either going to pop that straight up or hit a homer,” Overbay said. “I was glad it went the way it did.”

Cubs-Cardinals: Cubs 8, Cardinals 7

Well, that was the most frustrating Cubs win I can ever remember watching.

Chicago jumped on the hated Cardinals early with two runs in the first courtesy of a Hoffpauir double and Ramirez single.  The Cubs added another in the second via a Fukudome sac fly to score Mike Fontenot.  However, it was the second inning when the frustration started building.

Cardinals-Cubs: Ludwick's Heroics Fall Short as Bullpen Implodes

Ryan Ludwick certainly is no fluke.

The 30-year-old outfielder proved just how potent his bat can be on Friday as the Cardinals lost a nail-biter 8-7 to the Chicago Cubs.

The All-Star slugger hit a pair of homers off Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano in the third and seventh innings and finished the day with four RBI. He did strike out twice though, including a critical at-bat in the ninth inning against Carlos Marmol.

The New House Had a Smell

It was not all bad. The house was clean and all ready for its first of 81 home dates. What a sight it was!

You could not ask for a better day to play ball. The sky was bright and the $1.5 billion house that money built, in the face of a recession, was at its best. It was a full house.
