Yankees-Indians: What, What? Pavano Actually Showed Up at Yankee Stadium?

Saturday's 22-4 Cleveland win at new Yankee Stadium was a stunner.

But, as most baseball fans know, momentum depends on the next game's starting pitcher, so you'd probably expect the Yankees to kind of return the favour to the Indians on Sunday afternoon.

After all, it would be the Yankees' new ace, A.J. Burnett, going up against former Bomber bust Carl Pavano.

Ryan Perry: Reason For Hope

Ryan Perry is giving hope to Tiger fans across Michigan. The confidence he's displayed and trust he's gained from manager Jim Leylend is more than any reliever did all of last season. Even as a rookie, Perry shows the confidence of a proven veteran.

In an impressive 8-2 victory over Seattle on Sunday, Perry topped the radar gun at times by hitting 100 mph, and would follow up these pitches with 85 mph change-ups.

His line for Sunday's game was impressive: 2/3 innings pitched, 19 pitches, 13 for strikes, two hits, one earned run, and one strikeout.

Rockies-Dodgers: Series Recap (4/17-19)

I'm looking for something good to say about the three-game set the Colorado Rockies just completed at Chavez Ravine with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The only thing that comes to mind is this: I'm glad it's over.

Kurt Russell wasn't as happy to escape from L.A. back in 1996 as Clint Hurdle is today.

I can see only two bright spots from the entire series: Jorge De la Rosa's encouraging start on Friday when he found a way to pitch himself out of a number of jams, and Rockies' hitters swatting four home runs in the series.

Indians-Yankees: Series Rewind

Most of the time, splitting a four game series in New York with the Yankees is cause for celebration for the Cleveland Indians.

While the Tribe has many things to be encouraged about after the inaugural series in New Yankee Stadium the thought that they had the chance to christen the new venue by sweeping the Yankees out of their new home has to eat them alive.

The Tomahawk Review: Pirates Take Two of Three from Braves

This series may describe the Atlanta Braves organization as well as any other metaphor could. After being shut down, scoring zero runs, for two games, the Braves put up 11 on the Pittsburgh Pirates to prevent the sweep on Sunday afternoon.

With an off season loaded with one “swing and a miss” after another, the Braves came back to seize some victory in that battle as well.

Reds-Astros: Owings Two RBI Double Helps Down Houston 4-2

Reds starter Edinson Volquez (2-1) had a little problem with his control, but didn't pitch badly and got the the victory. Volquez worked six innings of four-hit, one-run baseball while striking out seven and walking five.

Reliever Arthur Rhodes got into some trouble in the seventh after an error by Joey Votto, but forced a double play and got the other out to escape without giving up any runs.

How About That Ricky Romero?

The Blue Jays actually took two out of three against the Athletics this weekend!

But this time, it wasn't all about their offense, which was a big part of their success, especially in the Minnesota series (when they scored 31 runs in the four games at the Metrodome).  Stellar pitching sealed the victories in these games.

On Saturday, Brian Tallet did a great job filling in for the injured Jesse Litsch. Tallet allowed just four hits and one earned run in his 5 1/3 innings in his first start since 2006 and helped the Blue Jays win 4-2.

Twins-Angels: Glen Perkins Collects First Win As Minnesota Sweeps

Three times through the rotation, the Twins have had a few surprises. There are none bigger, however, than the emergence of Glen Perkins.

White Sox Offense Clicks in 12-2 Blowout of Rays

When it rains, it pours, and when the White Sox offense is on fire, it's an inferno.

In all fairness to the White Sox pitching staff, Gavin Floyd did his best not to be outdone by the great starts of Mark Buehrle and John Danks, or the suddenly explosive offense.

Floyd threw seven strong innings, keeping a shutout all the way into the seventh inning. His control was back in a big way, striking out seven and not walking a single batter. He did give up six hits, but he spread them out well, and only yielded two earned runs.

Posada, Instant Replay Lift Yankees Past Tribe

In a pinch hit at-bat in the seventh inning of Sunday’s game, Jorge Posada crushed a two-run homerun into the short porch in right field of the new Yankee Stadium to push the New York Yankees in front of the Cleveland Indians to lead the Yankees' to a 7-3 win.

A couple of fans sitting behind the wall got involved with the play, reaching over the gate to snatch the ball.
