Bobby Abreu was rumored to be receiving a contract offer by the Angels, it was true, but Bobby Declined.

The offer by the Angles to Abreu was a 2 year $16 million dollar extension.

It’s too bad this isn’t golf, where a weaker player gets a handicap, because the Angels are playing every game with one less player.

It’s a vacuum, a non-existent, game-sucking, anchor-dropping, win-defying, gut- wrenching, can’t-stand-to-watch-anymore shadow of a once great player.

Vladimir Guerrero has left the building.

And unfortunately, he’s taking the entire Angels team with him.

No, it's not a cheesy weather pun (see: headline). The Angels have simply been sidelined for too long, slogging through a five-day break between the first and second rounds of the playoffs.

They were just a little sluggish, that's all. Or at least, that's all I'd like to believe.

Because the only other alternative is that their in-game shivers had some deeper and more sinister origin than just the frigid New York temperatures.

Yes, this is the same issue that just got blown to bits by the Angels in regards to Boston. Until the Yankees do to the Angels what the Angels did to the Red Sox, the Angels have the mental edge.

Jorge Posada and Jose Molina make a more formidable tandem. Jorge has great offense, and Molina has a great rapport with A.J. Burnett. Jorge, mostly known for his offense, has hit .308 against the Angels, but Jose Molina has hit only .038 against the Angels. The Yankees will only need Molina to catch Burnett.

After the Yankees and Angels both completed their respective sweeps of the Twins and Red Sox yesterday, it was time to start looking forward to the American League Championship Series.  The series will start Friday night at approximately 8 p.m. EDT, and two of the American League's top teams will be pitted against each other.

The Los Angeles Angels were forced to watch helplessly as the Philadelphia Phillies rushed onto the field at the end of Game Seven to celebrate their second consecutive World Series championship, knowing the Phillies weren’t really the champions; they were.

It's not what they were hoping for, but the Boston Red Sox find themselves down two games to none against the American League West Champions, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, in the American League Division Series.

The American League Championship Series belongs to Fox Sports in a week, and Fox is already salivating for a Yankees/Red Sox series.

Who can blame them? Twins offer no challenge to the Yankees based on their history against them in this decade, and the Red Sox historically own the Angels.

It's hard to believe the Twins will defeat the Yankees this time around. The Twins lack starting pitching for them to slay off the Yankees.

The Angels need to be called on to save baseball fans from an overhyped rivalry between New York and Boston.
