Former Top Prospect Dellin Betances Returns

Once highly touted pitching prospect right-handed Dellin Betances pitched in his first game last night since he had elbow surgery nearly a year ago.

He started for the Single-A Tampa Yankees. His line: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 SO, 1.50 ERA. Coming off of surgery, the walks are the most impressive thing, but he did unleash one wild pitch.

Soup's Back on in St. Louis: Cardinals Closing in on Jeff Suppan

With starters Kyle Lohse and Brad Penny on the disabled list and poor showings from rookies P.J. Walters and Blake Hawksworth, the St. Louis Cardinals may be close to bringing a familiar face back to Busch Stadium: Jeff Suppan.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that parameters of a deal were in place that could have the veteran right-hander, who was released by the Brewers on Monday, join the team this weekend in Arizona.

Jon Mozeliak, the Cardinals General Manager, warned that any deal was unofficial as of yet.

What a Bunch of Dicks: Baseball's Funniest Names

What do Dick Pole, Rusty Kuntz, Wilbur Wood, and Johnny Wockenfuss have in common? Their names all make me crap my pants from laughing so hard. How would you use "Rusty Kuntz" in a sentence?...

2010 MLB Draft Results: Yankees Draft Pick Profiles, Rounds 1-8

If you haven’t noticed yet I have been running posts on each of the players the Yankees drafted this week. There are 50 of them and I’m going to try to do as many as I can. I might start doing them out of order at some point too. So far we have the first eight draft picks up and I have at least four more on deck for today.

The common thing about these players are that they are young. The Yankees drafted 20 high schoolers in total which is a lot for a draft.

Yankees vs. Orioles: Arrieta Impressive in Major League Debut

Baltimore rookie pitcher Jake Arrieta had the difficult task of facing the New York Yankees in his major league debut.

However, Arrieta held the powerful Yankees offense in check and picked up his first big league win in the Orioles' 4-3 win Thursday night at Camden Yards.

Baltimore ended a 10-game losing streak to New York and avoided being swept by the Yankees for the third time this season. New York finished their six-game road trip with a 3-3 record.

Mets-Padres: Jon Niese Misses Perfect Game, Delivers One-Hit Shutout in Mets Win

NEW YORK—The Mets have never had a no-hitter thrown in their 48-year history. Tonight, although the lone baserunner came in the third, it could've happened.

Jon Niese allowed a leadoff double to Padres center-fielder Chris Denorfia, and that was the only baserunner he put on all game.

Niese retired 27 of 28 batters, including the last 21 to face him, in one of the greatest pitching performances in Mets' history. It was the first Mets one-hit shutout since Aaron Heilman on April 15, 2005.

New York Yankees: Prospect Dellin Betances Makes 2010 Debut

It seems like Dellin Betances has been in the New York Yankee's system forever.

And for Betances, who was considered a top minor league pitcher, it has been. He is considered one of the true No. 1 type pitchers in the Yankee system.

Drafted in the 8th round of the 2006 draft, Betances was stolen by the Yankees from a full ride to Vanderbilt University with a $1 million signing bonus.

Rockies-Astros: Colorado Rally Falls Short as Record Drops Back to .500

Sometimes there is a silver lining.

Losing three-out-of-four to the second worst team in the National League seems like it would be horrible.

Make no mistake, the losses sting, and frankly, the Rockies are digging themselves a hole that they may not be fortunate enough to climb out of. However, the Thursday matinée at Coors Field provided at least a glimmer of hope.

Fantasy Baseball Scouting Report: Brett Gardner

There certainly were conflicting theories about Brett Gardner as we headed into 2010.  Some people thought he could mature into an everyday player for the Yankees, including being a tremendous source of stolen bases.  Others thought that he would be exposed by major league pitching with regular playing time.  Thus far, those who b

Florida Marlins Alumni Association: An All-Star Team of Former Fish

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Florida Marlins wrapped up a three game set on Thursday at Citizen's Bank Park on a cool and breezy evening.

The game matched one of the most veteran and experienced teams in the league against a Florida Marlins team full of promising, developing young talent.

Unfortunately for the Marlins, much of this promising, developing young talent may end up being the stars of tomorrow for some other team.

The Marlins have spent most of their existence developing young talent and, just as it begins to ripen, selling it off to big market teams for the fresh fruit of t
