Pudge Rodriguez Deserves Credit for Stephen Strasburg's Debut

Counting his five Arizona Fall League starts, Stephen Strasburg had made sixteen starts as a professional before making his major league debut on June 8th. During these appearances, Strasburg pitched a total of 74.1 innings, walking 20, striking out 88, posted an ERA of 2.18, and racked up an 11-3 record.

Bud Selig Needs the Boot; It's Time For Some Changes in Major League Baseball

When is Major League Baseball going to learn to have some morals and values?

It starts—and ends—at the top. And that means commissioner Bud Selig.

He’s old and in charge. He wants to let the world know—and he’s too freaking stubborn to make one single change to America’s Pastime.

Like it or not, commissioner Selig, we live in the year 2010.

We live in a world with social networking, instant messaging, and texts.

We live in a world with instant replay.

When, oh when, is MLB going to wake up and face reality?

The Rebirth of Baseball as America's Pastime

My favorite sport has been disparaged, criticized and unjustly hated on ever since the 1994 strike initiated the decline of baseball into an exclusively older man's game—the new fly fishing, if you will.

The sport lacked the caché of football, lacked the flair of basketball and more recently, lacks the recurring Renaissance that soccer experiences when Americans are patriotically aroused by the notion that we're actually pretty decent at soccer—a sport typically associated with Europe and Latin America.

Dallas Who? Gio Gonzalez Is the Real Ace in Oakland

With Brett Anderson being on the injured list for most of the season, the Oakland A's needed someone to step up to become the ace of the staff while Anderson recovered from his injury.

All signs pointed to Dallas Braden as being the new ace of the staff.

The highlight of Braden's success came on Mothers Day when he pitched a perfect game. Since then, Braden has struggled.

Part of the problem has been the lack of run support for the perfect pitcher.

Derek Jeter and the 10 Current Players Who Will Get To 3,000 Hits

Derek Jeter has never hit for significant power, has never been a huge RBI guy, and has finished a season with a slugging percentage over .500 only once. But he has always been able to hit—and hit and hit and hit.

Jeter is currently 178 hits away from 3,000, which means barring something horrible he is going to be the next player to join this exclusive club.

Rockies' Non-Existent Offense Loses Again

Where is Jim Mora when you need him?

Wednesday night would be a perfect chance for his famous "playoffs, playoffs?" press conference.

A team that seemed to be destined to win their first-ever National League West title, the Rockies look more like the team of the early 2000's that struggled to win 70 games every year.

Eddie Bonine Dazzles in Relief, Tigers Consider Rick Porcello Demotion?

Rick Porcello got kicked around again on Wednesday night. This has become a common occurrence throughout the 2010 season. Starting against the Chicago White Sox, he only lasted 3.1 innings, allowing eight runs.

Porcello's season ERA rose from 5.25 to 6.09.

Just like in most of his outings this season, he looked extremely hittable. I know that is a subjective evaluation, but this is an attribute that he did not seem to possess in 2009.

Strasburg Mania: Washington Nationals' Stephen Strasburg Is the Real Deal

Stephen Strasburg threw a gem in his MLB debut for the Washington Nationals. He struck out 14 batters in seven innings.

Strasburg will be the best pitcher in the MLB for a long time.

Ever since his college days at San Diego State, Stephen Strasburg has been advertised to be the No. 1 pick in the MLB Draft whenever he took the mound.

He has a nasty fastball that topped over 100 miles per hour and made half of Pirates' batters miss. This is his favorite pitch to get players out. This will be one of the best fastballs in the MLB.

Washington Nationals' Steven Strasburg Is "The Kid" Of A New Era In MLB

Over 21 years ago a young slugger with incredible defensive skills made his debut for the Seattle Mariners.

In Ken Griffey Jr.'s first at-bat in Seattle he hit a home run.

With it, the Seattle fans saw a glimpse of the 20-year-old kid's beautiful swing that would dominate the sport's future. It was 1989 and for the next decade baseball would live and die by the popularity of the home run.
