As the baseball world slowly starts to enter September, one must think of the 2011 free agency.

Huge names enter this year's offseason including Cliff Lee, Adam Dunn, Paul Konerko, Derek Jeter (we all know where's he's going), and All-Star Outfielder, Carl Crawford.

Carl Crawford can make any team better, literally. He has so much talent that he currently is the best "five-tool" player in baseball.

We all know the Yankees will sign one big name superstar. But I hope it's NOT Carl Crawford.

Oh, Roger.

Love him or hate him, the news that Roger Clemens is being (it is hard to even type it out) indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of making false statements to Congress about his use of performance-enhancing drugs is down-right depressing.

There was a time when the baseball viewing public was being forced to ask themselves:

"Could Roger Clemens be ready to surpass Walter Johnson as the greatest pitcher of all time?"

The New York Yankees’ 2010 payroll is $206,333,389 with the average player making over $8.25 million this season. New York has more than double the payroll of 22 of the remaining 29 ballclubs and more than triple the payroll of seven other teams. Not one of the other seven clubs who has a salary of over $100 million currently sits atop their division.

New York Yankee fans have been waiting patiently for Curtis Granderson to figure himself out and it was well worth the wait.

Presently, the hardest stretch of the regular season is well underway for teams in contention, making the Yankees timing for heading into crisis-mode a serious concern.

Mark Teixeira was 3-for-4 with two RBI, and seven New York pitchers led the Yankees to a 9-5 win over Detroit Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.

With the win, New York remained in a first place tie in the AL East with Tampa Bay. Detroit dropped to 2-5 against the Yankees this season.

As the CC Sabathia and the Yankees beat up on Justin Verlander and the Tigers Tuesday night, a very interesting battle occurred within the war. Austin Jackson, an outfielder who was developed in the Yankee system, hit a home run on the first pitch thrown by the Yankees ace, CC Sabathia.

The inning later, Curtis Granderson, who was traded for Jackson, made two sparkling catches. He later followed with a home run.

At the beginning of the month Curtis Granderson was in the middle of one of the worst slumps of his career. Over the span of 11 games from July 30th through August 11th, Granderson was three-for-29 (.103 BA) with just one extra base hit.

At that point, Granderson went to Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long and, figuring things couldn’t get much worse, asked for his help. So K-Long and G-Unit went to work on his swing.

In an effort to protect the arm of Phil Hughes, who has never gone beyond 146 innings in any one season in his career, the Yankees are limiting him to about 175 innings this year. Many believed this meant that the Yankees would move him to the bullpen in October, as a way of keeping that innings total down. It turns out that isn’t the case.
