New York Yankees Sign Tim Redding

According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post , the Yankees have signed right-handed pitcher Tim Redding to a minor league contract.

Redding was released by the Rockies earlier this week. He was pitching for their Triple-A affiliate this season. In five games he had a 1-1 record with a 4.32 ERA in 25 innings. He last pitched in the majors for the New York Mets last season. In 30 games and 17 starts for the Mets he had a 3-6 record and a 5.10 ERA in 120 innings.

Phil Hughes Making Spring Competition Seem Silly

Back in Spring Training , the Yankees put Phil Hughes into a competition with other pitchers like Joba Chamberlain , Sergio Mitre, and Alfredo Aceves. The four pitchers competed to see who would be the Yankees fifth starter. Obviously Hughes won the job and since then, he is making it seem like there never should have been a competition.

Yankees-Tigers Game Two: Yankees Rebound With Shutout to Earn Split

After being held scoreless earlier in the day, New York responded with their own shutout in an 8-0 triumph over Detroit Wednesday evening at Comerica Park. The teams split the day-night doubleheader with the Tigers winning the afternoon affair, 2-0.

With the win, New York ended a season-high three-game losing streak. Detroit’s two runs in the bottom of the sixth in the first game were the only two Tiger runs scored in the doubleheader.

Yankees, Red Sox, and Blue Jays—Oh My! The Twins' Critical Road Trip

Championships are not won or lost in May, but if the Minnesota Twins plan on making a serious playoff run and contend for the World Series this year, the next seven games could tell us plenty.

The Twins embark on a three-city road trip with three games against the Yankees and two each at Toronto and Boston.

New York Yankees To Call Up Juan Miranda from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre

Left-handed first baseman/designated hitter Juan Miranda will be called up to the New York Yankees today, giving the team another lefty power bat for its lineup. Since the loss of Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui, coupled with the recent injuries to Curtis Granderson and Nick (DL) Johnson, the Yankees are short on left-handed bats.

Javier Vazquez Trade Rumors

According to Frank Russo of NY Baseball Digest , the Yankees have been getting phone calls from a few National League teams including the Atlanta Braves on the availability of struggling pitcher Javier Vazquez .

Read: A-Rod No Lock for Bonds' Record

When the Yankees signed Alex Rodriguez to an obscene 10-year, $275 million contract, they did so with the  idea that he would not only help them win ball games, but also pack some seats. It’s part of the reason why he could qualify for up to $30 million in bonuses based on how many historic home runs he hits.

Is Tonight Do or Die for Javier Vazquez in the Yankees Rotation?

I can hear Yankees Featured Columnist Joseph Del Grippo saying somewhere, "another Javier Vazquez article from Doug."

Yes it is, because tonight could be a major night in deciding the future of the Yankees right-hander.

The Yankees will send Vazquez out to pitch in the second game of their four game series with the Tigers at Comerica Park.

This will be the first time since May 1 that Vazquez will be stepping on a mound for the Yankees to start a game.
