Colby Rasmus: The Cardinals' Slugger Could Be Spark for New "MV3" Lineup

Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday.

St. Louis Cardinals fans know these players well as the heart of the order for the Redbirds, and for good reason. They've consistently produced year in and year out with offensive numbers and defensive prowess.

Baseball fans might want to start looking for Colby Rasmus in that role as well.

The young outfielder crushed his first home run of the 2010 season yesterday, and looks poised to become part of something special for St. Louis.

Passing Through The Decade From Hell

We’ve survived it. “The Decade from Hell,” as Time called it. The 2000s—or Aughts, or Double-O’s, or whatever you want to call them—were not for the faint of heart. Sparkling towers felled by manned missiles; a pair of wars foisted with thought to cost neither fiscal or physical; a hurricane turning America’s soul, New Orleans, into a watery, ransacked shell.

No, it wasn’t for the faint. And it sure as hell took long enough.

The Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees: Brewing a Rivalry?

The Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees faced off in the 1970s and 80s and had quite a rivalry in the American League East.

All that changed when the Brewers switched leagues in 1998, but it seems there may be a renewal of the rivalry, at least between the front offices.

Yankees President Randy Levine called out Brewers owner Mark Attanasio in the media on Tuesday.

Attanasio recently made comments to USA Today about the difficulties his team is having in trying to sign Prince Fielder to a long-term deal.

The Case for Jose Lopez as the Seattle Mariners' Cleanup Hitter

As I wrote last week , Milton Bradley's appointment as the Seattle Mariners' cleanup hitter highlighted a bitter truth about the Mariners' lineup; it is (nearly) completely devoid of power.

Bullpen Be Damned, Royals Blowing Greinke Gems Again In 2010

If you’re a sports fan and you’ve been to Kansas City for a Royals or Chiefs game, you know that Kansas City fans know how to throw a party.

This is never more apparent than at the beginning of the season when expectations are abound and disappointment has yet to infest public sentiment.

Rest? Who Needs Rest? Start Johan Santana Every Fifth Day Without Fail

When you evaluate the Mets chances of seriously challenging the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East this year, what is the biggest obstacle they need to overcome?

While staying healthy would be near the top of many people's lists, in my opinion it all hinges on starting pitching.

Outside of Johan Santana, just how much do you trust the two-through-five combination of Mike Pelfrey, Oliver Perez, Jonathan Maine, and Jonathon Niese?

Is Houston Astros' Opening-Day Loss Cause for Concern?

New year, same result for the Houston Astros.

Roy Oswalt takes the mound and, for the first game of the season and coming off a season of injuries, pitches a decent game: six innings, seven hits, three earned runs, three strikeouts.

His team goes out and gets four hits against two-time Cy Young Award-winning San Francisco Giants hurler Tim Lincecum. They also strike out seven times, draw no walks, and score no runs.

End result: Giants 5, Astros 2.

Five Reactions to the Oakland Athletics' Roster Selections

With Opening Day now behind us, rosters for the season are now set.

The A's finalized their 25-man roster two days ago. I didn't agree with everything they did, but overall, they did a strong job of picking the best players.

What follows are five reactions I had to specific moves.

Happy baseball season! Let's enjoy the game!

How Excited Is Too Excited About The White Sox?

After game one of 162, the White Sox couldn’t look better.

Buehrle and the 'pen made the Cleveland Indians look like, well, the Cleveland Indians.

The lineup showed a perfect combination of power and speed.

And last, but not least, Ozzie made it through one game without starting Omar Vizquel. Kudos all the way around.

The question that comes to mind now is, how excited should we as White Sox fans be about the season?

2010 Opening Day Review: What I Learned From the Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers did their best to stage a ninth inning rally for the over 45,000 fans in attendance at Miller Park yesterday, but Franklin Morales and the Colorado Rockies were just a bit better.

The Brewers brought the tying run to the plate with just one out in the ninth, but both Prince Fielder and Jim Edmonds hit line drives that were caught, and Milwaukee started the 2010 season with a loss.
