St. Louis Cardinals Ripped Off in Mark DeRosa Deal

It may not be his fault, but John Mozeliak has been bamboozled.

Who would have thought that when Mozeliak acquired Mark DeRosa from the Cleveland Indians in late June that he would trade for Matt Holliday, who would then go on to have an MVP-caliber second half?

And there was no way that Mozeliak or anybody else could predict the wrist injury that DeRosa endured less than a week after beginning his stint with the Cardinals.

Andre Ethier Making MVP Statement for First-Place L.A. Dodgers

Six walk-off hits—four of which have been long balls.

That’s what Andre Ethier has done this season for the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers.

The six walk-off winners are an all-time high for a single player in the divisional era. In fact, he has the most walk-off hits in a single season since 1974, and his four walk-off homers are also the most since ’74.

Justin Morneau was the last player to hit three walk-off homers in a season, doing so in ’07.

Big Time Andre Etheir & Other MLB Diamond Notes.

Etheir's penchant for drama

Andre Ethier collected his 6th walk-off last night; the most in the majors.

Tommy Hanson at the Head of the Class

Tommy Hanson won his 10th game yesterday, mowing down the Mets lineup. In a season full of breakout rookie starters, has he been the best?

First, to put how good this year’s class of rookie starters is in perspective, let’s look at some numbers:

Omar Minaya, Don't Make the Same Mistake With Carlos Delgado: Part I

Does the name Pedro Martinez ring a bell, Omar? It should.

You were smart enough to bring him to New York, and it was a brilliant move, because it started a whirlwind movement by Latin players who wanted to come to New York to be in his presence.

Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Johan Santana, all expressed publicly that coming to the Mets to play with Pedro was paramount in their decision to want to play in New York.

The fact that Omar had the chance to re-sign him this year at a much lower cost to the organization was a wasted effort on Omar's part.

The Conundrum of Being a New York Mets Fan in 2009

So, here’s my problem.

I picked a bad season to start a blog about the Mets.

Sure the theme of my blog is negative in nature.  I am the Disgruntled Mets Fan after all, but that doesn’t change the fact that I want them to win above all.

The problem with writing a blog in a season like this is that I have to keep writing about, and watching, the Mets.  The problem with that is the Mets are unwatchable.

Kansas City's Poor Year Due to Shabby Trade and Broke Bats, Not Injury Wealth

Over the past few months, we have been treated to a number of interestingcomments from within the Royals' organization.   The team's best hitter, Billy Butler, has been publicly criticized for a perceived lack of proficiency in turning the rare 3-6-3 double play.

The General Manager has said, outloud mind you, that he neither understands nor believes in any of the current defensive statistical measures.

Marlins' Coughlan Has a Chance For Rookie Award

Andrew McCutchen, Dexter Fowler, Tommy Hanson, J.A. Happ and Chris Coghlan are candidates for the 2009 NL Rookie of the Year award.

Writers nominate their picks on the final week of the regular season, and they mention who they selected in the final game of the season in Sunday's newspapers.

This writer thought Coghlan's chances were slim at best in winning that award a month ago, but as the weeks have flown by, Coghlan's play garnered attention.

FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal campaigned recently on Coghlan's behalf as this year's Rookie of the Year.

Derek Jeter Is Number One

New York Yankees icon Derek Jeter moved past Lou Gehrig on the Bombers all-time hits list on September 11 with a single to right field in the Bronx.

Why The Colorado Rockies Have Been Better Without Matt Holliday

When Matt Holliday was traded this offseason, Colorado Rockies fans were not a happy bunch.

Fans and media members alike claimed the trade was proof that Rockies owners Charlie and Dick Monfront were not willing to make the necessary financial commitment to field a winning team.
