In the post-trading deadline world that the Boston Red Sox now occupy, it's best to watch games with an eye on 2015 rather than the scoreboard.

The Sox still boast plenty of talented players, to be sure. But there are going to be many rough stretches in the coming weeks as young players are allowed to take their licks and sink or swim at the major league level.

Entering play on Friday night, the largest division lead in the National League is owned by the Washington Nationals. So why should we consider the National League East to be the most exciting division race in baseball? After all, the Nationals were supposed to win the division, and here they are with a 4.5 game lead.

After some blockbuster deals at the trade deadline, some teams have put themselves in the position to make a late playoff push.

The nonwaiver trade deadline is behind us, but that doesn't mean teams can't still upgrade their roster via trade. Clubs now have until the end of August to add players via waivers and still include them on the postseason roster.

Generally the moves made at this time are small scale, but there have been some notable waiver deals over the years, most memorably the blockbuster between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox in 2012.
