Phil Hughes Plays Hero Role In Big Yankees Win

Phil Hughes couldn't of been better in his return to the big league roster in his first start of the season after being recalled from Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The New York Yankees, beat up and injured, were fading fast and needed a big win to stop the streak.  They got it from Hughes.

Hughes, who has replaced the injured Chien-Ming Wang in the rotation for now, wants to let everyone know he is in the rotation to stay.

He pitched six strong innings only giving up two hits, along with six strikeouts and no runs against a tough Detroit Tigers lineup.

Can the Yankees Be Cured?

This past weekend was an extremely bad one for Yankees fans.  Many fans are now suffering from sweepitis, a debilitating disease brought on by getting owned by the Red Sox for three straight games.

Symptoms include

  • Wanting Joba to go back to the bullpen.
  • Continuously seeing images of Jacoby Ellsbury stealing home.
  • Wanting to shave Kevin Youkilis' beard.
  • Wondering why CC and AJ are getting paid so much.
  • Wondering who Angel Berroa is.
  • Actually missing A-Rod.

Yanks Cut Six, Including Hughes

This morning, Cashman released the next six players to be cut from big league camp.  Phil Hughes, along with Steven Jackson, Anthony Clagget, Humberto Sanchez, Jason Johnson and Sergio Mitre, got the boot.

Hughes Gives Minnesota Twins Their “Phil”

In cementing his place as the opening day starter for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in AAA, Phil Hughes gave the Minnesota Twins all they could handle and more.

Hughes lowered his spring ERA to an impressive 2.19, while limiting the Twins to just four base runners in 4 1/3 innings pitched.
