Memorial Day Weekend Equals Crazy Basbeall

So far 2010 has been filled with drama.

Teams go from boiling hot to freezing cold in an instant. Stars have been struggling more than ever.

Who would have thought Memorial Day weekend would leave so many marks this season?

Here are three 2010 Memorial Day Weekend shockers:

MLB Power Rankings Week Nine: Another Perfect One

Roy Halladay threw the 19th regular-season perfect game in major-league history on Saturday in a 1-0 win over the Marlins. It was only the sixth of those perfect games thrown on the road.

A-Rod almost knocked David Huff's head off. A walk off grand slam by the Angels Kendry Morales' results in a broken leg.

And we have a 10-game winner who is on pace for 32 wins. Juuuust another week on the diamond.

Ranking Perfection: Top Five Perfect Game Pitchers of All-Time

In light of Roy Halladay's recent perfect game, I decided it would be interesting to rank the top five pitchers of all time. The catch: they must have breathed in the rarified air of the perfect game.

So Nolan Ryan out...uh, Dallas Braden in?

There have only been 20 perfect games in the history of Major League Baseball. This does limit my options for these rankings somewhat, but also should be an indication of how incredibly difficult it is to throw nine innings of perfection.

By definition, it is impossible to compare perfect items.

Perfect Yet Not Enough: Why Jimenez Should Still Be Cy Young Favorite

Immediately after Roy Halladay tossed the 20th perfect game in MLB history, and an absolute gem at that—coming against a division rival in a hotly contested game, I logged on to different sports web sites to read about the reaction to such a momentous game.

Halladay's perfect game, aside from being only the second in the history of the Philadelphia Phillies, also comes as the second of the month of May—the first one being thrown by Dallas Braden, the pitcher that had mostly been known as the guy Alex Rodriguez disrespected.

Marlins Mastery: Phillies' Roy Halladay Fires Perfect Game!

Coming off his worst outing of the season and surrounded by a team struggling to score runs, Roy Halladay was determined to get things righted tonight with a strong performance against the Florida Marlins.

Although his Phillies teammates could scratch out only one run, Halladay etched his name in the  baseball annals by hurling the 20th perfect game in Major League Baseball history.

27 up, 27 down!

Is Missing a Perfect Game the Worst Feeling as a Fan?

First of all, I would like to congratutlate Roy Halladay for throwing the 20th perfect game in MLB history. Secondly, I would like to hang myself for not being present, even though I had the chance to be.

I don't know if it is the worst feeling a fan can ever have. I have seen the Cubs piss away a lead in game 6 of the NLCS. I have witnessed several Bengals' playoff losses. I have also seen many Northwestern bowl losses. This one hurts.

Philadelphia Phillies' Roy Halladay Pitches Perfect Game Against Marlins

It takes more than inefficient pitching and hitting for me to root against the hometown Florida Marlins.

But as I sat in Section 128, Row 4, Seat 1 at Sun Life Stadium Saturday night during game two of three between the Philadelphia Phillies and Fish, my allegiance wavered.

Roy Halladay Records 20th Perfect Game in MLB History

Newly acquired Philadelphia Phillies ace, Roy Halladay, joined an elite group with the 20th perfect game in MLB history today against the Florida Marlins.

The perfect showing was complimented with 11 strikeouts and a whole bunch of whiffs. Halladay improves to 7-3 on the season while the Phillies will move two games above the Braves to lead the division.

Strangely, this is the second perfect game this season; Dallas Braden was perfect against the Tampa Bay Rays on May, 9th.

Drug Testing Works—Pitchers are Back in Control of Baseball

I remember in the '80s, everything was about pitchers.  Gooden, Clemens, Scott, Darling, Orosco, and Franco – these were the names of those who controlled the game.

Philadelphia Phillies Get Shut Out for the Third Time in Four Games

There are times when a Major League Baseball team can’t seem to catch a break, and the reasons are not so obvious.  Good news, Philadelphia Phillies fans: this is not one of those situations.

In losing Wednesday night to the New York Mets, the Phillies struggled with the same two problems that have killed them during the current eight game streak in which they are 2-6 against four inferior baseball teams.
