MLB Trade Rumors: Red Sox Acquire RP Daniel Turpen From S.F. Giants

The Boston Red Sox have acquired minor league pitcher and 2007 8th-round draft pick Daniel Turpen from San Francisco to complete a trade deadline deal that sent reliever Ramon Ramirez to the Giants, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford.

The 6-3, 230-pound Turpen turns twenty-four this August and has posted a 2.69 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP in over 220 composite minor-league innings. While Turpen has naturally been most dominant at the Single-A level, his 2010 numbers at Double-A Richmond haven't been quite as impressive.

MLB Trade Deadline: Red Sox Deal Ramon Ramirez to San Francisco Giants

The Boston Red Sox have traded struggling righty reliever Ramon Ramirez to the San Francisco Giants at the 2010 MLB trade deadline.

While Ramirez has been less than effective in the American League this season, the Red Sox have been actively shopping him to National League clubs with whom he might experience a resurgence, including the New York Mets.

MLB Trade Deadline: San Francisco Giants Hold Strong Amid Feeding Frenzy

With the minutes ticking away toward the 2010 Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline, fans saw the typically violent flurry of activity as general mangers hustled to smooth out the rough edges. Some of the moves look brilliant while others seem to stink of acquisition for acquisition's sake.

Take a gander at the maneuvering that started way back at the beginning of July and decide for yourself:

July 9th —Texas Rangers acquire RHP Cliff Lee from the Seattle Mariners for 1B Justin Smoak, RHP Blake Beavan, RHP Josh Leuke, and INF Matt Lawson.

Bullpen Woes: San Francisco Giants In Need of Major Bullpen Overhaul

The San Francisco Giants have been playing some great baseball over the month of July. And while they still may seek an offensive addition at the trade deadline, they clearly have a more pressing issue.

San Francisco must fix the bridge to closer Brian Wilson.

It's not just a maybe, it is a must fix problem or this current happy go-ride Giants fans are hoping ends in the postseason will completely fall apart.

The San Francisco Giants' Best Trade Option: John Bowker

While some members of the media are clamoring for the Giants to trade for a big bat and Brian Sabean is kicking the tires on every non-impact bat available, the Giants' best trade option is right in front of them: John Bowker.

MLB Trade Deadline: Moves Would Be Luxury for Streaking Giants

It's tempting for the more seasoned (really old) followers of the San Francisco Giants to sit back and enjoy what has been a fabulous start to the second half of the season.

Giants Rookie Madison Bumgarner and Vet Aubrey Huff Deserve Some Love

Hardly a day goes by when I am not fully engrossed in baseball at this time of the year. Such was the situation once again last Wednesday night, when I settled down to watch Wednesday Night Baseball before the Giants-Dodgers game. It happened to be a Steven Strasburg start, which got me excited. However, I found the game to be rather ruined by the announcers, who were singing the praises of Strasburg to the effect of a host of elderly grandparents ogling over the beauty of a newborn child. I felt this similar sense of disgust this Saturday night while watching baseball tonight.

Fallen Giant Eugenio Velez "OK," Ball Park Reporting Is Not

Eugenio Velez is "doing OK," according to the San Francisco Giants medical staff after he was hit in the head by a foul line drive off the bat of Pat Burrell on Saturday night in Arizona.

The 28-year-old utilityman went through tests at a Phoenix hospital where he spent the night. The Giants finish a four-game series in Arizona on Sunday.

Reports indicate that Velez suffered a concussion. Manager Bruce Bochy confirmed after the game that the player did not suffer a fractured skull and that he, initially, "wasn't really responsive."

San Francisco Giants Need Triple-A Team To Produce Marketable Talent

The San Francisco Giants really need another left-hander out of the bullpen now that Jeremy Affeldt's sidelined with a torn oblique muscle.

The club also needs minor league talent to attract a proven big league run-producer in trade.

Todd Wellemeyer's pitching well for the Fresno Grizzlies in the Pacific Coast League, but that doesn't mean that fans calling for the club to trade Jonathan Sanchez for a hitter have any idea how difficult it would be to fill the No. 4 spot in the rotation.

Kelly Johnson Hits for the Cycle, Go Figure

Last night, Arizona Diamondbacks’ second baseman Kelly Johnson became the third player this year to hit for the cycle. Johnson went 4-for-4 with three RBI along with a hit by pitch in the Diamondbacks 7-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants.

While this is a great feat for Johnson, I am a tad annoyed this happened. I am annoyed this happened because I had Johnson on my bench last night for my fantasy team. My logic? I went off sample size.
