Team Confirms Injury Status

The Blue Jays passed along word of the unfortunate setback Tuesday:

Despite not being as well-known as some of his peers, Toronto Blue Jays prospect Miguel Castro is quickly climbing up the organizational depth chart and could be knocking on the door to the major leagues soon.

Signed as an international prospect in 2011, Castro had a breakout season in 2014 during which he moved up three different minor league levels and posted a 2.68 ERA in 80.2 innings pitched.

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Steve Delabar is heading into spring training looking to bounce back from what was a difficult season last year.

After breaking out in 2013 and getting selected to the American League All-Star team, Delabar’s 2014 numbers significantly fell off. He posted a 4.91 ERA in 25.1 innings pitched before being demoted to Triple-A Buffalo for most of the season.

The Toronto Blue Jays’ first major injury of 2015 came before the team had even played a single spring training game.

When the Toronto Blue Jays signed free agent catcher Russell Martin to a five-year, $82 million deal during the offseason, rumors immediately came out that Dioner Navarro had requested to be traded away from the team.

Now, on the first day of spring training, Navarro appears to have confirmed those rumors and reaffirmed his desire to be traded.

While the Toronto Blue Jays spent the offseason overhauling several positions on the roster, the team decided not to pursue a veteran second baseman. Considering that Toronto’s second basemen batted a combined .247/.295/.340 with just a .634 OPS during the 2014 season, the team’s decision seemed even more puzzling.

Toronto Blue Jays top pitching prospect Daniel Norris didn’t get a lot of attention this offseason (unless you count the attention he’s received for his nomadic lifestyle).

The drought needs to end.

The Toronto Blue Jays have not made the postseason since winning the World Series in 1993, the longest dry spell in Major League Baseball. Though the Jays have made blockbuster trades aimed at ending the streak in recent years, including this offseason, they have not finished any better than third in the American League East in the last eight seasons.

October 25, 1998, has been seen as a great day in Toronto Blue Jays history. The ball passed from one legend to another when reliever Dave Stieb took the ball from starting pitcher Roy Halladay for the first and only time in club history.

These icons are widely considered two of the greatest in Blue Jays history, so it is no wonder that this moment has been frozen in time.

After missing the playoffs for the 21st straight season last year, the Toronto Blue Jays spent much of the offseason retooling their roster in an attempt to reverse their fortunes during the upcoming season.

Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos began his overhaul by first electing to part ways with several notable players from last season, such as Adam Lind, Melky Cabrera and Brett Lawrie.
