Arizona Diamondbacks: Walk This Way

The Arizona Diamondbacks may have found a way to win without hitting. They walk...and walk...and walk. We can complain about the lack of hitting all we want and trust me, I do my fair share. However, this team has been showing a propensity to walk, a lot.

Last night against the Milwaukee Brewers was no different. After walking 10 times against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday—three of them with the bases loaded—they pulled it off again last night. They received another bases loaded walk.

I will say this, they are showing great patience at the plate. Even in at-bats where D'backs are striking out, they are working the count in many cases. The problem sometimes is they are too patient and they let perfectly good fastballs go right by them.

I’ll take it however I can get it. Walking isn’t as flashy, but it clearly gets the job done. When you load the bases with walks, then one big hit can do the other team in. We saw that happen against both the Cubs and Brewers. The D'backs even did the same thing in their comeback win over the Giants last Sunday in Phoenix.

They need to take advantage though. Last Saturday, they let Giants starter Randy Johnson off the hook. He walked seven batters in 3 2/3 innings. Only one came around to score.

Last night’s 5-2 victory was another comeback, led by walks and small ball. Like I said, I will take it anyway I can get it. Wouldn’t you agree?
