Billy Beane: The Most Igorant GM in Baseball

I don't know of any other general manager other than Billy Beane to allow for their team to play with no sense of direction or purpose.

It doesn't matter that the pitching is their for the Oakland A's.What matters is the lack of runs and hitting the A's have shown the past two-plus seasons under the leadership of manager Bob Geren. A's fans get the same exact excuse over and over again: The season is still early and the team will start hitting.

The question then becomes, where was it in 2007? Where was it in 2008? Oh yeah, that's right—the A's offense was last in the American League in pretty much every single significant category.

When your best hitter is only batting .279 for the season, something needs to be done. This offseason Beane did try to get some offensive players, but his biggest mistake was not signing Bobby Abreu.

Yes, the A's had already signed Jason Giambi and brought in Matt Holliday in a trade, but two offensive players to fix the worst offense in the league? Please!

I'm sorry, Mr. Beane, but ignorance is not bliss. The A's needed more than just two players to fill the needs of their offense, even with the pitching they did get last year. They're showing why this year.

Another issue is the fact that Geren has no clue how to use his bullpen— and again there's another example of why Geren should be fired. Why was the A's closer Brad Ziegler put into the game in the eighth inning while trailing 3-0?

Let alone why was he allowed to even pitch the ninth inning considering he just had gotten back from an illness? Wouldn't it make much more sense for Ziegler to build his confidence back up by going one inning and not trying to go for two innings?

Well, the decision again was wrong. The Toronto Blue Jays ended up scoring two runs off of Ziegler in the top of the ninth, so any hopes for a comeback against the Blue Jays were all but squashed.

Well, Beane, it's time for you to take up and get rid of Geren. It's clear that the A's are not going anywhere under him, and the season is getting very old rather quickly because it's becoming the same exact excuse as last year—"wait for the hitting to come."

Well, as an A's fan I'm tired of waiting.

Bring in a manager that will make better decisions and also inspire these hitters to start hitting. Also, the change will definitely build more confidence with the young pitchers the A's have, because let's face it: The A's pitchers are going to have to go into the mode of last year and they are going to start to struggle because they'll be busy trying to make the perfect pitch because the A's cannot score runs.
