Come To Think Of It: D'OH! Glad The Cubs Didn't Put Derrek Lee On The DL

I wrote an article on Saturday http://bleacherreport.com/articles/166673-come-to-think-of-it-put-derrek-lee-on-the-disabled-list suggesting the Cubs should have put Derrek Lee on the disabled list.

Well, boy, am I happy they didn't listen to me (not that they read B/R).

He homered for the second consecutive game today, smashing a grand-slam to deep center field to give the Cubs a 6-2 lead that they never relinquished in an eventual 6-4 victory over the Florida Marlins.

Way to make me look bad, D-Lee. You don't hit for a whole month, then all of sudden you come up with an injured neck, and now you suddenly find your power?

I mean, really, who could have seen this coming?

Meanwhile, Aramis Ramirez is said to be close to returningpossibly as soon as Monday. But the Cubs got a new injury today, unfortunately.

Unless he did it on his own, which is possible, the decision to have Carlos Zambrano bunt for a hit was a risky move. On Sunday, it resulted in what is being described as a hamstring strain.

Big Z will have an MRI tomorrow and we'll collectively hold our breath and hope that it's nothing serious, such as a tear.

Since we're talking about risks, why do we have Rich Harden pinch running? Don't we have anyone else that can do that job?

This is the same fragile pitcher who annually misses chunks of time to the disabled list. And we're okay with letting him run the bases on his day off?

I would guess that even if Zambrano's hammy is not seriously injured, his days of pinch-hitting are over for a while. The risk isn't worth the reward.

Yes, he has hit 17 home runs in just over 500 career at-bats. But he has walked only six times and struck out 181 times in that span!

He is a good hitter only relative to other pitchers.

As for Lee, I am sure glad he was around to hit that granny today. Crow tastes mighty fine, come to think of it.
