Come to Think of It: A New Year's Poem for Cubs Fans

2009 was a disappointing year, once full of promise, but ended with drear.

Despite three consecutive seasons of winning ball, the Cubs once again failed to win it all.

Still we come out to Wrigley in record numbers, the fans cheering loudly while management slumbers.

Sweet Lou lived up to his name, that he seems so burned out is definitely a shame.

Randy Wells came out of nowhere to surprise, you could see the desire in his eyes.

Once washed up DLee was a sight for sore eyes, despite all the misguided Hoffpauir cries.

Big Z had his meltdowns and this he must face: He’d better improve if he wants to be our ace.

Ted Lilly continued to be the unsung hero, but his offseason surgery may make his 2010 a zero.

Kevin Gregg wasn’t the stopper we’d have hoped, and Geo got fat and smoked dope.

Marmol couldn’t find the plate after showing up late, and Demp regressed to average from great.

When Hendry signed Milton he sealed the Cubs fate, Bradley instantly became the man we’d all hate.

Aarons Heilman and Miles typified Hendry’s offseason from hell, the only good thing was the Tribune forced to sell.

The Ricketts swooped in and opened their purse, now Cubs fans all dream of ending the curse.

Like the ivy on the bricks, this poem goes out to the Creatures who come to get their Cubs fix.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
