Do the Yankees Have a Succession Plan for Derek Jeter?

In the next year or two, the New York Yankees will have to decide on what to do with Derek Jeter.

And it looks like the decision is going to happen sooner than later, especially with Jeter's uninspired play in the World Baseball Classic.

Now, Yankee fans are going to argue that it is March and he's not in shape yet.

I find that hard to believe, considering that present day professional players are constantly making sure to keep in shape when coming in to camp.

For someone who claimed that the WBC was important and that he was upset about a certain loss in that tournament, Jeter sure didn't play like it.

For example, Jeter hit a ball sharply to short, and it was bobbled. Ninty-nine percent of the time, Jeter beats that out. This happened to be that 100th time, but instead of the play even being close, Jeter was out by a few steps.

Add to it Jeter's pathetic defense. He wasn't getting to balls that pretty much every other shortstop in Major League Baseball (or the Classic, for that matter) would.

It's time for Yankee fans to acknowledge that Jeter's range is substantially less than it once was and that he's lost a step out there. His arm was never that strong, and now he's making poor throws more often.

I get that Jeter was the captain of the American team, but he should have been the DH. Jimmy Rollins made all the plays that Jeter would never be able to make, and Rollins' arm is a lot stronger than Jeter's.

So, Yankee fans, you better get ready, as Jeter is going downhill defensively and soon, he'll be no more than a designated hitter.
