Empty Seats at Yankee Stadium, Where Is the Love?

Upon watching the first two games of the 2009 World Series, I was astonished at the number of empty seats at Yankee Stadium.

Sportswriters constantly claim that New York Yankee fans are the best in baseball. I am not here to disagree with them, but just question it from their support?

It amazes me how Yankee fans needed the Yankees to lower ticket prices in order to "fill" the stadium. BRAND NEW Yankee Stadium tickets are as low as $277 on Stubhub.com, while the cheapest ticket for Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park is $395.

Yes, that is correct. A $118 difference on Stubhub in ticket prices. Not to mention the first time the Yankees have appeared in a World Series since 2003. You would think the fans would be storming the gates to get in. Yet, they are as casual with the World Series as if it were a mid-May series with the reigning World Series champions.

With the Yankees trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game 1 of the World Series, I want to emphasize, WORLD SERIES , the Fox cameras panned across Yankee Stadium to find many empty seats.

Empty seats behind home plate, behind the dugouts, down the first and third base lines, in left and right field. All over the place there were significant patches of empty seats.

Now I am not saying the place was empty by any means, but there were more empty seats than there should have been.

It is disappointing as a baseball fan to see such fans be so non-supportive as to give up on their team being down only two runs in the seventh inning. Philadelphia wouldn't dream of ever doing something like this.

Philadelphia has sold out every game since the middle of April and especially for the playoffs, CBP has been packed. Not a seat in the house. The loyalty and "phaith" ooze from the Philadelphia fans.

Yankees fans better step it up as far as turnout to games goes if they wan to compete with the Phillies fans.
